AMC’s The Audacity has wrapped its first season, going out with a literal bang and one of the show’s most devastating twists. In the finale, Tom Ruffage (Rob Corddry) dies by suicide, a moment that lands with brutal finality after a season that had been building its characters navigating increasingly unstable emotional ground.

“It goes the distance,” Helberg says of the finale. “You kind of feel like it builds to this real fever pitch.”
That tension wasn’t limited to the screen. Helberg recalls a sense of “preciousness” among the cast as they approached the end of the season. While no one knew exactly who would meet their fate, there was a growing understanding that a significant death was coming.
Rath remembers the day the cast finally received the script and learned what was in store.
“I remember we got the script,” she says. “And I remember seeing Rob … he was sad, too.”
The emotional reveal became one of the defining moments of the season, bringing an unexpected end to a character audiences had followed from the beginning. For Helberg and Rath, it’s just one example of the bold storytelling choices that made The Audacity’s first season such a memorable ride.
