Zach Braff is back and so is Scrubs. It could be called a 10th season, or maybe a 1st, but for Braff maybe it is really the 9th because all at Scrubs are pretending that season -storywise- of the original run doesn’t exist. It is also not a reboot but rather a revival, but no matter how you describe it, the show has been welcomed back with open arms by ABC and Hulu audiences. It has now been renewed for a, uh, second season of the revival and Braff is happy to be back as he told me for this episode of my Deadline video series, The Actor’s Side.
In addition to reuniting with the original cast, Braff also talks about his versatile career behind the camera, not just as producer and director on Scrubs, but also as an Emmy nominated director of other shows by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence including Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Rooster. In fact Braff tells the story of his unexpected but new found friendship with Shrinking co-star Harrison Ford who reminded him on set that he started as a carpenter. That came in handy as Ford proceeded to fix the floor in an episode Braff was directing.
Of course Braff is no stanger to directing, as he has done several films including Garden State and A Good Person, and in fact is even a Grammy award winner for the much acclaimed soundtrack of the former.

Now with 175 episodes of Scrubs as Dr. J. D. Dorian under his belt for the first decade of this century, he is back as Chief Of Medicine with an older and wiser , but no less funny, version building on that number as the show continues to evolve.
