Here are the first visuals of the Camden Film Quarter, the proposed £1BN ($1.3BN) film and TV studios and community close to central London. Detailed design proposals have been submitted and reveal what the proposed project would look like.
We brought you news the project was underway and also that there will be a London Screen Academy/National Film & Television School campus within the Quarter. Yoo Capital is behind the development and its blueprints also include a Museum of Film & Television as well as studios tours. Essentially, the plan is for a community with film and TV at its heart.
The location in Kentish Town in the Borough of Camden is close to central London, which is different to most studio facilities in England, which are ordinarily housed out of town.
Watch on Deadline
The Quarter is what is dubbed, in the UK, a ‘mixed-use neighborhood’. In real terms, that means the industry parts, namely the studios, edit suites and other business areas, would sit cheek-by-jowl with the education facilities and about 1,000 new homes. Per the proposal, there would also be space for shops, cafés and restaurants. The plan is to connect all of the spaces with an elevated high line.
The designs and proposals were shared with select partners a couple of weeks ago at an event in Kings Cross that was attended by politicians, studio execs, producers and other potential partners. The Masterplan for the site was submitted earlier this year and been rubberstamped by local authorities.
Yoo Capital said it has addressed concerns about traffic and transport logistics by applying systems it developed during the redevelopment of the iconic Olympia site in west London. Working with consultants Oxygen Studios, it plans to submit more detailed plans by late 2025 or early 2026. If planning permission is granted, construction could begin as early as next year or in early 2027, with the first soundstages operational two years later.
