KJ Apa Asked ‘Riverdale’ Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa For ‘Afterlife with Archie’ Cameo: “I Don’t Know Who I’d Play”

As KJ Apa navigates life after Riverdale, he’s up for a return to the upcoming Afterlife with Archie series adaptation.

Following his performance as Archie on the CW series for its seven-season run from 2017-’23, the actor expressed his excitement for series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the Archie Comics chief creative officer who also co-wrote the Afterlife with Archie comics.

“I spoke to Roberto, who was our showrunner for Riverdale, who’s also showrunning that show,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And I’m really excited. I can’t wait to see who they cast as Archie and the gang.”

Apa admitted it would “be cool if we could do some cameos or something,” noting, “I asked him!”

“I would think that would be really fun if I could come in for a scene,” added Apa. “Maybe I’m not even [Archie], I don’t know who I’d play, but it’d be fun to do it.”

Set for a Halloween 2027 premiere on Disney+, Afterlife with Archie received a script-to-series order from the streamer last October, with Berlanti Productions (Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Warner Bros. TV producing.

Penned by Aguirre-Sacasa based on his and artist Francesco Francavilla’s comics, Afterlife with Archie turns the all-American town of Riverdale into a zombie-overrun apocalypse — where the only thing scarier than the undead is trying to survive your teenage years. When a supernatural spell from a certain teen-witch backfires, unleashing an army of the possessed dead upon Riverdale, Archie and his friends must fight to stay alive, testing the friendships, romances and loyalties that have always held them together.
