Although Jennifer Garner takes audiences on a trip in The Five-Star Weekend, she prefers staying in Los Angeles for work.
The Golden Globe winner recently discussed why it’s been “so important” to her that she works in Hollywood “as much as possible,” while state legislators push to uncap California’s film and TV tax incentives program.
“I started really honing in on working in Los Angeles as much as possible,” she explained to the Associated Press. “It can’t always happen. But we’re losing the film industry here. It’s so important to me. I love the crew members in Los Angeles. I grew up with them for the last 30 years.”
Garner continued, “It’s so important to keep filmmaking here in LA. And also, for all of us, not just for me, but for all of us, who have kids, and families, and lives, and homes, and gardens to tend to, we want to be here to watch them all grow.”

In 2025, on-location production in Los Angeles declined 16.1%, with a slight uptick in Q4 thanks to the California Film & TV Tax Credit Program giving the state’s industry a much-needed infusion.
Bringing work back to Hollywood has become a major platform for both incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and opponent Nithya Raman, with both calling for California’s $750 million film and TV tax incentives program to be uncapped.
Based on the 2023 novel by Elin Hilderbrand, The Five-Star Weekend filmed in both Los Angeles and Nantucket last year. The eight-episode series stars Garner as food blogger Hollis Shaw, who hosts a weekend with her friends at her Nantucket home following the death of her husband.
Developed for Peacock by Bekah Brunstetter, the series also stars Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden, Harlow Jane and Timothy Olyphant.
