On the latest episode of On the Go With Deadline, The Audacity stars Paul Adelstein and Lucy Punch reflect on some of the most audacious moments of their own lives, revealing the risks and bold decisions that shaped their careers long before they joined AMC’s dark comedy.
For Adelstein, simply choosing acting as a profession tops the list.
“Doing this as a career,” Adelstein says when asked about the most audacious thing he’s ever done. “I’ll still wake up sometimes and be like, ‘I cannot believe you. Wow, so ballsy.’”
Punch quickly agreed, noting the uncertainty that comes with pursuing a creative profession.

“It’s a massive gamble, isn’t it?” she says.
“It was a massive shift in my life,” Adelstein confirms.
For Punch, however, her most audacious moment came after hearing she had lost out on a role she desperately wanted. Rather than accepting the decision, she decided to challenge it directly — a move that required the kind of confidence many actors might struggle to muster after being turned down.
“I didn’t get a part for something, and I wrote to the director and told him why he’d made a terrible mistake,” Punch recalls. “I insisted that we talk… and I got the part.”
While their stories differed, both offered a glimpse into the mind-set required to navigate an unpredictable industry where rejection and uncertainty are as much a part of the job as learning lines and where resilience often becomes just as important as the talent itself.
