Grace Van Patten, who plays the title role in the Hulu limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, joins me in conversation for a special edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side as we go on location to Soho House Holloway in West Hollywood for Disney’s Toast to TV, an awards-season event spotlighting all Disney brands.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is inspired by the story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted in Italy for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. It details a 16-year odyssey to set herself free. Knox is an executive producer on the series, as is Monica Lewinsky, who like Knox knows what it is like to be unwillingly caught up the spotlight in ways that will never quite go away.
Van Patten, a frequent presence on Hulu with her series Tell Me Lies and another project Nine Perfect Strangers, really threw herself into playing Knox and telling the story truthfully, rather than through a tabloid eye. We talk about how she approached playing Knox, her interactions with Amanda, the responsibility of playing a real-life person still living, what she hopes audiences take away from the series and much more.
