Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton has swapped the Upside Down for The Garrison.
Netflix and the BBC have unveiled a first look image of Heaton and revealed he will play Tommy Shelby‘s eldest son Charles Shelby in Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders sequel series. Heaton’s character had proved a mystery since his casting was revealed last month alongside the likes of Jamie Bell, who will take over from Barry Keoghan playing Charles’ half brothe Duke.
Heaton can be seen in today’s first look staring the camera down, looking every bit a Shelby. Having fought a violent war, much of it behind enemy lines, Charles Shelby is now embracing normality. He hasn’t seen Duke in years. Charles severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang, and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But the series asks, ‘Can you ever escape your own blood?’

The casting marks Heaton’s return to Netflix, where he played Jonathan Byers on hit Stranger Things for its five-season run.
The new series is set a decade after World War Two and comes after the movie, The Immortal Man, which aired on Netflix. That one focused on Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby and his relationship with Keoghan’s Duke. It also starred Tim Roth and drew in big audiences worldwide.
Also new to the series are Jessica Brown Findlay (Silo, The Flatshare), Lashana Lynch (The Day of The Jackal, No Time to Die), and Lucy Karczewski (Stereophonic) in her TV debut. Details of these roles will be shared at a later date.
Peaky Blinders is currently being filmed in and around Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham and is produced by Banijay’s Kudos with Garrison Drama.
