SPOILER ALERT: This post contains plot details for the first three episodes of Apple TV‘s Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
Thaddea Graham’s Susie, supportive roommate to Elle Fanning’s titular Margo in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, does not have meeting her favorite professional wrestler on her bingo cart as a result of Margo having a baby.
When Margo’s father Jinx, aka James Millet, (Nick Offerman) shows up to their Fullerton apartment and she sees him at the beginning of episode three, Susie is flabbergasted.
“I think for Susie, Jinx is her hero growing up, and when he walks through the door, there’s a there’s a brief moment of, ‘Oh my goodness, what is happening.’ And then she quickly remembers who she is, calms down, and just keeps moving,” Graham told Deadline in an interview paired with Nick Offerman. “I think we get to see a real humanity in Jinx, and I think Susie really sees especially as we progress through the series. I think what we find is a friendship that is maybe unexpected, but there is something extremely vulnerable and open and courageous in that. It’s been a lovely thing to find and to watch it grow.”

Susie apologizes for her “flummoxed state” upon first meeting Jinx, and when he moves in with her and Margo, the pair become part of Margo’s support system in more ways than one. Susie and Jinx’s characters are connected from the start as they are tied to each other’s big entrances in the show. Susie’s introduction is tied to an old video of Jinx wrestling.
“There were some scenes that we picked up later on. We got to go back and we did some additional photography, and Susie’s entrance was in that, and I think it was a real gift to get a second bite at the apple, and it’s such a fun entrance for her,” Graham added. “And she is so quirky and weird in the most wonderful ways. I think quirky and weird and nerdy are often negative connotations, and they aren’t, and they shouldn’t be. We should be celebrated for our quirks and our whimsies, and we probably need more of that. I think we see a lot of that in Jinx as well, and that’s what she really loves.”
Susie loves cosplay, and she designs her own costumes, crochets and more. She isn’t as invested in wrestling in Rufi Thorpe’s best-selling novel, on which the show is based, but the performance aspect of the sport weaves well into her TV iteration.
“If there are any young people watching, you should aspire to be called quirky, because you might end up in the theater and then you might end up sitting next to Thaddea Graham,” Nick Offerman said in the interview.
“I can only apologize if that happens,” Graham joked in response.
The first three episodes of Margo’s Got Money Troubles are now streaming on Apple TV. New ones arrive every Wednesday.
