Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent will be back for a second season, but Season 2 will diverge from the first installment.
The legal drama series was renewed in July 2024 with its final two episodes still to launch on Apple TV+. Starting out as a limited series, the series will take on an anthology style like The White Lotus after becoming Apple’s most-watched show.

Who will be in the cast of Presumed Innocent Season 2?
Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Superman) will lead Season 2 of the legal series alongside Jack Reynor (Midsommar, The Perfect Couple, whose casting Deadline reported exclusively. Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason)was also cast as a lead in early September, and Fiona Shaw (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve) was cast as a series regular Oct. 1.

Season 1 of the series was inspired by Scott Turow’s 1987 courtroom thriller novel of the same name. It starred Jake Gyllenhaal in the main role of Rusty Sabich, the character Harrison Ford played in the 1990 film adaptation of Turow’s best-seller.
The cast of Season 1 also included Bill Camp as Raymond Horgan, Renate Reinsve as Carolyn Polhemus, Ruth Negga as Barbara Sabich, O-T Fagbenle as Nico Della Guardia, Peter Sarsgaard as Tommy Molto, Elizabeth Marvel as Lorraine Horgan, Lily Rabe as Dr. Liz Rush, Chase Infiniti as Jaden Sabich and more.

A key difference in the series set up following seasons for an anthology-style show was that one character present in the film adaptation, Sandy Stern (Raul Julia), was not present in the television adaptation. Author Scott Turow followed his bestseller that inspired the show with 1990’s The Burden of Proof, which followed Presumed Innocent‘s Sandy.
What will Presumed Innocent Season 2 be about?
As Deadline first reported, Season 2 will be based on Jo Murray’s debut legal thriller Dissection of a Murder, which will publish in 2026. The book centers Leila Reynolds, who is way out of her death when offered her first murder case by a defendant that only wants her. Complicating matters is the fact that her husband is the prosecutor.
Who else is behind Presumed Innocent Season 2?
Presumed Innocent hails from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Season 2 will see David E. Kelley return as showrunner on alongside Erica Lipez. J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot. Kelley executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions alongside Matthew Tinker and Lipez. Dustin Thomason also serves as executive producer.
