‘The Californians’ Return To Celebrate ‘SNL50’ With Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader & Fred Armisen Reprising Roles

“Stuart? What are you doing here?”

The familiar phrase was heard again amid the SNL50 celebration as Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen reunited to reprise their roles from The Californians.

The trio was part of a commercial for Volkswagen, which sponsored the specials celebrating Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary.

During the commercial breaks for SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, commercials featuring some of the iconic characters of SNL’s history played.

The Californians was a recurring sketch on NBC’s late-night comedy show that mocked the California accent in a soap opera setting.

Wiig, Hader, and Armisen formed a love triangle in the series of sketches that featured the characters naming all the streets and freeways around the Los Angeles area.

The Californians reunited in a VW commercial for the new ID.Buzz, with the trio highlighting some of the features of the electric vehicle, like the seats that Wiig’s character said were “like California lounge chairs.”

SNL50: The Homecoming Concert celebrates the music of SNL with performances from artists like Arcade Fire, Backstreet Boys, Bad Bunny, Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Brittany Howard, Chris Martin, David Byrne, DEVO, Eddie Vedder, Jack White, Jelly Roll, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Mumford & Sons, Post Malone, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Robyn, and The B-52s.

Celebrating 50 years on TV, the festivities continue on Sunday, February 16, with SNL50: The Anniversary Special at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
