📰 PCE INFLATION EXPECTED TO BE CONSISTENT 25-BPS FED CUT The September core PCE inflation gauge is likely to accelerate to 0.2% from August’s 0.1%, but it will be “only trivially above the Fed’s 2% annualised pace,” Capital Economics’ Paul Ashworth says in a note, considering today’s CPI report. PCE isn’t due until the end of the month and tomorrow’s PPI report will help fine-tune projections. Ashworth says that, if his prediction is correct, the pace of inflation “would be consistent with the Fed’s plans for a more measured 25 [basis-point] rate cut early next month.”

📰 SEPTEMBER CPI SEEN AS REASON FOR POSSIBLE FED PAUSE Prices remained hot in September, which could lead the Fed to keep rates on hold next month, Regan Capital’s Skyler Weinand says in a note about the September CPI report. The 12-month print was 2.4%, slower than August’s 2.5% but higher than consensus forecast of 2.3%. The core reading ticked up to 3.3% from 3.2%. The numbers, following last week’s blockbuster jobs report, “may encourage the Fed to pause any further rate cuts for the time being,” Weinand says. Odds of a November pause are priced at 14% on the CME’s FedWatch tool
