Based on the book of the same by Jodi Thomas and set to gallup back onto the small screen July 23, Netflix’s 10-episode Western drama Ransom Canyon has added some new famous faces to its ensemble cast for Season 1.
Led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, the show braids together the lives of three powerful ranching dynasties in the small Texas town, combined with several generations of love stories, love triangles and aspirations.

Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland

Image Credit: Anna Kooris/Netflix Staten Kirkland is a stoic rancher who runs one of the last major ranches in Ransom Canyon, Texas. Staten can’t always clearly communicate, and compounding loss has made that even more difficult for him, and he also isn’t sure what to do about his feelings for Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly).
Josh Duhamel is most well-known for portraying Alex in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name Safe Haven (2013) alongside Julianne Hough. He is also well-known for playing Captain Lennox and later Colonel Lennox in Transformers (2007) and Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) respectively. Recent roles for the actor include Tommy Ward in London Calling (2024) and Tom Fowler in Prime Video’s Shotgun Wedding (2024) in which he starred alongside Jennifer Lopez. He also played Coach Cole in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers with Lauren Graham.

Tatanka Means as Jake Longbow

Tatanka Means starred as John Wren in Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) and as Taklishim in Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1. He also appears in The Son and Saints & Strangers, and he played Najee in Opus starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich.

Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman

Image Credit: Courtesy of Netflix Lauren Brigman is head cheerleader at Ransom Canyon high school, but she has big dreams to get out of the small Texas town. First she was Reid Collins’ girlfriend and then something happened between her and Lucas Russell (Garrett Wareing). Lauren’s injury at a cheer clinic for the University of Texas proved a setback for her between seasons.
Greene is known for playing Sophie Dixon in A Million Little Things, Dawn in Nicky, Ricky Dicky & Dawn and Young Nicole in Damaged Goods (2014).

Casey W. Johnson as Kit Russell

His character Kit Russell was secretly seeing Lauren’s mother and was present when she was driving under the influence and crashed into Staten’s son Randall, killing him, in Season 1. Kit is also Lucas’ brother.
Johnson was a series regular as the character Danny Stevens on Apple TV’s For All Mankind, and he recurred on Netflix’s Glow as Billy Offal and NBC’s Rise as Gordy Mazzuchelli.

Heidie Engerman as Sidney

Image Credit: Jeff Neumann/Netflix Heidi Engerman stars as Yancy Grey’s ex-wife in Season 2. Sid showed up at the end of Season 1 to disrupt what would have been Yancy and Ellie’s small, intimate, candlelit chapel wedding, throwing Ellie’s perception of the former grifter into shadow.

Ben Robson as Oliver

Robson is known for playing Nero in Hard to Lose (2015), Kalf in Vikings (2016), Cole in The Boy (2016) and Craig Cody in TNT’s Animal Kingdom. He also appears as Essau in The Faithful.

Patricia Clarkson As Claire O’Grady

Clarkson is known for playing Melinda Moores in The Green Mile, Eleanor Fine in Far from Heaven (2002) Olivia Harris in The Station Agent (2003) and Rosemary in Easy A (2010). She plays Ava Paige in The Mazerunner movie trilogy, adapted from James Dashner’s books, and she is also known for playing Tammy Swanson I, first wife to Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson, in Parks and Recreation.

Brett Cullen as Senator Sam Kirkland

Peter Brett Cullen is known for appearances as a Congressman in The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Barton Blaze in Ghost Rider (2007), Eddie Martel in The Replacements (2000) and as Nathan Ingram in the TV show Person of Interest.

Steve Howey As Levi
Steve Howey, who can be recently seen in shows like High Potential and the first season of Prime Video’s Off Campus, joined Season 2 to play Staten’s half-brother, Levi. Levi is a mountain man who lives off the land.
In High Potential, he plays Nick Wagner, and in Off Campus, he stars as Phil Graham, father to main character Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli). Howey played Kevin Ball in Shameless, and he is also known for playing Daniel in Bride Wars (2009), Marcus in Something Borrowed (2011), Rich in Game Over, Man! (2018) and Mike Nazarian in Netflix’s Day Shift (2022).

Kai is Sheriff Dan Brigman’s righthand man.

Golding portrayed Hailey Winton in Rabbit Hole, Teri in Empire, Rosa in Behind the Movement (2018) and Enobaria, a District 2 Career tribute and former victor, in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) which involved Katniss and Peeta’s second Hunger Games, the 75th Quarter Quell which recruited former victors of all the past games.

Kate Burton as Katherine Bullock

Kate Burton played Meredith Grey’s mother Dr. Ellis Grey in Grey’s Anatomy. She is also known for playing Margo in Big Trouble in Little China (1986), Tracy in Unfaithful (2002), Nicole Horne in Max Payne (2008) and Doctor Randall in What Just Happened (2008).

Eoin Macken as Davis Collins

Macken plays Doc in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016), Rob in The Forest (2016) and Mark in Till Death (2021). He also stars as Gavin Harris in La Brea.

Andrew Liner as Reid Collins

Andrew Liner is known for playing Mason Ashford in Vampire Academy, Justin in Bang Bang (2024), Isaiah in Gray Matter and an Actor in Please Don’t Feed the Children (2024).

James Brolin as Cap Fuller

Image Credit: Anna Kooris/Netflix Cap Fuller is a retired Army Captain and also one of the big three ranchers in Ransom Canyon in Season 1. His gruff exterior conceals a soft spot for some, like Ellie Estevez. Cap died at the end of Season 1, but his legacy lives on in Yancy Grey and Ellie.
James Brolin, father of Josh Brolin, is known for many a film including Westworld (1973), Captricorn One (1977), The Amityville Horror (1979) and Traffic (2000) to name just a few. More recently, he voiced Zurg in Lightyear (2022) and narrated the Netfilx series Sweet Tooth.
