Missing ‘Virgin River’ Actor Stewart McLean’s Body Identified In British Columbia

UPDATED on May 23, 2026: Canadian TV actor Stewart McLean‘s remains have been positively identified one day after it was announced that a homicide victim thought to be the missing McLean was discovered.

McLean’s remains were found in the Lions Bay, British Columbia area, one week after he went missing, before investigators announced they were looking at the disappearance as a homicide investigation.

“As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr. McLean’s activities prior to May 15, 2026,” Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s IHIT (Integrated Homicide Investigation Team) Cpl. Esther Tupper said in a statement. “We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. McLean.”

The 45-year-old McLean, sometimes credited on TV projects as Stew McLean, was last seen May 15 at his residence in Lions Bay, about a half-hour outside Squamish and 45 minutes from Vancouver.

In a previous statement, the Squamish Police said its missing persons investigation had uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe McLean was the victim of homicide, prompting IHIT to take over the investigation.

McLean, described by investigators as 5ft 10 in, 150 lbs with gray hair and blue eyes, has maintained a career as a working TV actor since about 2015, appearing in single episodes of Arrow, Supernatural, Travelers, Blue Steele, Loudermilk, Murder in a Small Town and Netflix’s Virgin River, among other series and TV movies.
