‘La Casa De Los Famosos’: Julia Argüelles On Why She Felt “Betrayed” By Housemates & What She Learned From Telemundo Reality Competition

Julia Argüelles became the newest eliminated houseguest from Telemundo‘s La Casa de los Famosos after several weeks on the block.

After weeks of facing the public vote, Argüelles’ luck ran out, and when all of the Earth Room was on the block, she was evicted.

When Argüelles first started in the competition, everything seemed normal, but by the third week, she was up for eviction, and everything changed. Many thought she suffered from the “nominee syndrome,” which is acting up to the cameras to get more screen time and the public on your side.

Following her elimination, Argüelles tells us that the whole experience was part of the “nominee syndrome” as she was nominated every week after that, except for Week 6.

“I thought I was going to leave [Week 3] and I didn’t want to leave being a [floater], as they called me,” she said. “I learn first. This is my first reality [show], and I knew I was being calm [at first] because that’s how I am. I had done some comedy [bits in the house]. It wasn’t like I wasn’t creating content [for the show]. But this was not the place for comedy; it was a place for dark humor, and when I understood it, I applied it and created this character.”

Argüelles said she constructed a character inside the house to cope with being nominated as the house turned against her. As a character, Argüelles became defiant and started throwing weekly budget challenges, leaving her housemates (the same ones who nominated her for eviction) with less money to buy groceries for the week.

The Pienso en Ti actress said she felt “betrayed” by her fellow housemates at first for nominating her, adding, “All I wanted to do was to make them mad because they made me feel bad, and I felt that they didn’t want me [in the house] anymore.

One of those houseguests Argüelles felt betrayed by was Caeli Santaolalla López. Although the duo tried to talk things out, they were never able to meet eye to eye, and their friendship was completely fractured from that moment forward.

“It hurt,” she said of feeling betrayed by López. “I tried to explain things to her, but when I realized that my words were not going into her heart, I stopped wasting my saliva.”

Argüelles says her friendship with López was “authentic at first,” and noted, “But in this show, you don’t come to make friends, and that was my innocent part. When my innocence was lost, my friends were gone, and they all became my rivals and competitors in a mental game.”

For someone who thought they would be evicted from the game in Week 3, she made it to the halfway point of the competition. Through her time in the house, Argüelles says she learned she was a “resilient” person, saying, “I felt that I played to make [the housemates] angry, because that’s part of the game — to take everything to its limit and to endure the same when they do it to you. But I feel like I did it in a clean way. I don’t feel that I crossed the line and I am proud of that.”

La Casa de los Famosos airs Sunday through Friday at 7 p.m. ET on Telemundo and 24/7 on Peacock.
