‘The Runarounds’ Canceled By Prime Video After One Season; Eponymous Band Will Continue

EXCLUSIVE (Updated with band’s statement): There will be no second season of The Runarounds as Prime Video has opted not to renew the YA series.

The development is not surprising as it’s been seven months since the eight-episode first season of the music drama was released on Sept. 1. According to sources, the show was quietly canceled a couple of months ago. Its female lead, Lilah Pate, recently booked a series regular role on another show, Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King spinoff Frisco King for Paramount+.

The Runarounds the series is ending but the eponymous rock band at the center of it will carry on. The group, comprised by show stars and real-life musicians William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher, is on tour through the end of June.

“While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay”, the quintet wrote on the group’s Instagram after Deadline broke the news of the cancellation. “This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.”

The band thanked their supporters, plugged their tour and teased their upcoming first album. (You can see the post below)

Created by Jonas Pate, co-creator of series Outer Banks, and executive produced by all three Outer Banks co-creators, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, The Runarounds was inspired by the real band of the same name formed in 2021 to appear on the hit Netflix action-adventure YA series.

The Runarounds was part of Prime Video’s major YA expansion following the blockbuster success of The Summer I Turned Pretty that has included hit series Maxton Hall and We Were Liars, the popular Culpables movie franchise as well as another 2025 show that did not get a second season, Motorheads.

Like Motorheads, The Runarounds was not able to break through. It didn’t make it into Nielsen’s Top 10 though it charted on Luminate’s Top 50 in its first three weeks, logging 1.9M hours watched in the U.S. at #32 for its opening weekend, followed by 2.2M (#27) and 1.2M (#41) in Weeks 2 and 3.

The Runarounds, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television, follows a group of recent high school graduates from Wilmington, North Carolina, who come together the summer after graduation to form a rock band, united by their shared love of music and near-impossible dream of stardom.

“If the show inspired anyone, at any age, to try and start a garage band with their friends, than the mission was successful,” the group wrote on IG.

In addition to Lipton, Ellis, Yun, Murdock, Golliher and Lilah Pate, whose father is Jonas Pate, the cast includes Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur, and Shea Pritchard.

The Runarounds was executive produced by David Wilcox, who wrote the teleplay for the opening episode, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, Shannon Burke, Joon Yun, Scott Lambert, and Lisa Mae Fincannon, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television.
