EXCLUSIVE: Discovery and Change Content alum Julie Meisner Eagle has joined Pioneer Productions to help expand in the U.S.
Meisner Eagle, who worked on Emmy Award-winning A24 documentary The Sixth about the Capitol riots, has become Executive Vice President, Production and Development in the U.S. for Pioneer, which is behind the likes of Gold: A Journey with Idris Elba and Hulu’s Mother Undercover.
Meisner Eagle will “help shape Pioneer’s U.S. development engine and oversee production as the company ramps up its international footprint,” the company said. The British docs firm is owned by UK production group Tinopolis but has made plenty U.S. content down the years.
Meisner Eagle joins from Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine’s Change Content, where she was EVP and led the social impact campaign on The Sixth. She also developed a yet-to-be-announced HBO docuseries. She previously held senior roles across the Discovery portfolio, including Executive Producer at Discovery Channel, where she oversaw a range of high-profile documentaries and multiple seasons of Shark Week.

Meisner Eagle will report to CEO Howard Swartz, the ex-Shark Week chief who joined Pioneer as CEO earlier this year. She will work closely with factual boss Peter Collins. Creative director Thomas Viner exited recently but he has so far not been replaced.
“Pioneer is entering one of its most exciting phases in recent years,” said Swartz. “We’re developing projects that embody the intelligence and ambition that define this company, while creating space for bold new ideas that resonate across platforms. As we accelerate our creative output, bringing in a leader of Julie’s caliber ensures we can scale thoughtfully while continuing to deliver the premium factual storytelling that’s core to Pioneer.”
