Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has joined his friend Daniel Radcliffe in passing on some wisdom to the cast of the new HBO series.
In an interview with BBC News, Grint revealed that he had written to Alastair Stout, who is taking on the role of Ron Weasley in the reimagining of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy franchise.
“I wrote him a letter, before they started, passing the baton as it were,” he said. “It was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this world, and I hope he has the same experience.”
Of the HBO series, Grint said: “It’s quite strange to have the cycle happening again … I’m really intrigued what it’s going to be like.”

Grint added that he sees “a bit of family resemblance” between himself and Stout. “I think it’s great that it’s a whole new thing. It’s going to be its own thing, and I think that will be fun,” he said.
Radcliffe said last week that he had written some words for Dominic McLaughlin, who will play Harry Potter in the HBO series.
“I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them,” Radcliffe continued. “They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time.”
Grint said he would consider returning to the Potter universe in the future, but it was not a current priority. Tom Felton recently got a raucous welcome as he reprised his role as Draco Malfoy for the first time in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.
Filming has been ongoing for months on the Harry Potter series, which will star McLaughlin as the titular Hogwarts wizard. Stout plays Harry’s best friend Weasley, and Arabella Stanton rounds out the trio of heroes as bookworm Hermione Granger.
Other cast includes Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape.
