BBC board member Shumeet Banerji has today resigned as the fallout from a bungled Donald Trump edit continues at the UK broadcaster.
The BBC confirmed Banerji’s resignation, though a spokesperson pointed out that the businessman’s term on the board was due to end next month.
BBC News, which is editorially independent of the BBC, reported that Banerji cited governance concerns in his resignation letter.
He reportedly complained that he was cut out of conversations related to the resignation of director-general Tim Davie and Deborah Turness, the BBC’s former news chief.
Banerji was out of the country as the board considered the explosive Michael Prescott memo — which blew the whistle on Panorama’s Trump edit — but said he was “not consulted” on key matters.

His concerns could be interpreted as a criticism of BBC chair Samir Shah, who has faced questions about his leadership in recent weeks.
A BBC spokesperson said: “Shumeet Banerji today notified the BBC board of his resignation. Mr Banerji’s term on the Board as a non-executive director was due to end at the end of December and we thank him for his service. The search for a replacement is already well underway and we will update further in due course.”
Banerji is the founder of Condorcet, an advisory and investment firm focused on early and development stage technology companies. He has served on the board of Hewlett-Packard.
