Governors Awards Red Carpet Photos: Ariana Grande, Lucy Liu, Jeremy Strong & More

The annual Governors Awards were underway Sunday at Ovation Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. The 16th edition of the event, which celebrates the honors conferred by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors, featured attendees including Ariana Grande, Lucy Liu, Jeremy Strong, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac among the many on the A-list invite list.

As reported, the honorary Oscars will go to movie star Tom Cruise, storied dancer Debbie Allen and prolific production designer Wynn Thomas, while the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award will be presented to country legend Dolly Parton who, due to previously publicized health issues, will not be able to attend in person. The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award will not be awarded this year.

Highlights from the event are incorporated into the year’s Academy Awards show.

Per the Academy, the statuette, is given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy.” Meanwhile, the Hersholt is given “to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry by promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities.”

In addition to the aforementioned stars, the evening — which culminates in a dinner gala — saw the biggest names in film and television, including Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, Predator actress Elle Fanning, Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Rental Family alum Brendan Fraser, Frankenstein‘s Goth, The Last of Us stars Kaitlyn Dever and Isabella Merced, KPop Demon Hunters singer EJAE and director Maggie Kang, Sentimental Value‘s Stellan Skarsgard and Renate Reinsve, Materialists helmer Celine Song, Hal & Harper actress Lili Reinhart and many more.

Oscar-nominated producer and Academy Producers Branch governor Jennifer Fox returns for the seventh time to produce the Governors Awards, per previous reporting.
