UPDATE: Netflix has launched its second trailer for Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1.
The new trailer opens on the Upside Down version of the Hawkins Library, covered in slimy vines. Viewers may recall that this is where Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was found after that fateful night he went missing in Season 1 of the Netflix tentpole series.
A Demogorgon bows before Vecna, covered in similar vines to the alternate dimension as the villain declares, “At long last, we can begin.”
Cue Queen’s “Who Wants To Live Forever” and cut to Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson biking to Hawkins High School, proudly wearing his Hellfire Club shirt from the late Eddie Munson’s (Joseph Quinn) Dungeons and Dragons group.
A ravaged downtown Hawkins, still healing from the devastation at the end of Season 4 when Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) tried to open four gates from the Upside Down and swallow Hawkins whole can also be spotted.
Watch on Deadline
Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) sit atop the WSQK building where Mike reveals that Hawkins residents are “stuck” in the fenced-in town crawling with military.
All elements of the main crew are back together with the four boys working together with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke). Hopper and Eleven look to be navigating The Upside Down together as the psionic hero uses her returned powers to leap into the air.
“This isn’t like one of your campaigns,” Eleven tells Mike. “You don’t get to write the ending, not this time.”
Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) can be spotted holding Max Mayfield’s (Sadie Sink) comatose body in an elevator as a demodog runs at them. He later looks to be in a tunnel facing a Demogorgon.
“He’s planning to end our world, and he’s not gonna stop til we’re drained of every last ounce of suffering,” Nancy says.
“We stay true to ourselves, we stay true to our friends,” Dustin says. “No matter the cost.”
A showdown is coming as Vecna can be seen levitating Will’s frozen body telling him “You are going to help me one last time.”
PREVIOUS, July 16: Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the final chapter of Stranger Things, and it teases an epic showdown in Hawkins. The streamer also dropped 12 new photos for the final season, which you can view here.
We see the first footage of Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay, and demogorgons popping out everywhere.
Picking up in the fall of 1987, Hawkins looks like a Hellscape, the town scarred by the opening of the Rifts to the Upside Down and our heroes united by a single goal: to find and kill Vecna. “But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time,” reads the official synopsis.

Netflix reveals upcoming episodes will also provide more intel about the mysterious Upside Down. Back in Season 1, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer wrote a 25-page document that delved into the mythology of the cryptic alternate dimension. While some of that lore has already been unveiled, we can expect more details to emerge in the final season.
“The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” Ross Duffer said previously. “And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”
The cast includes Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler), Amybeth McNulty (Vickie), Nell Fisher (Holly Wheeler), Jake Connelly (Derek Turnbow), Alex Breaux (Lt. Akers) and Hamilton.
Stranger Things is produced by Upside Down Pictures & 21 Laps Entertainment with The Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers, alongside Shawn Levy of 21 Laps Entertainment and Dan Cohen.
