Former Sky & BBC Exec Jack Oliver Joins Dash Pictures

EXCLUSIVE: Jack Oliver, the former Head of Co-Productions at Sky, has joined Dash Pictures.

The move comes as the UK-based indie label pushes deeper into the high-end docs space, as well as into scripted TV and independent film. Deadline recently broke the news of Dash’s first movie, Better, a psychological thriller starring Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) that recently completed filming.

Oliver has taken the newly-created position of Head of Development and Executive Producer at Dash, which was founded by Daniel Sharp. He is a seasoned exec, having been at Sky for a decade before departing earlier this year, as we first reported. Prior to Sky, Oliver spent two decades at the BBC, working in the pubcaster’s acquisitions department and on titles including 24, Heroes and Family Guy.

At Dash, Oliver will work across the indie’s scripted and unscripted output. The production house is currently working on Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols for Nat Geo, country house show Great Estates From Above, which has been pre-bought by Channel 4, and What Really Happened: American Independence, a doc series for the 250th anniversary of 1776 Declaration of Independence.

“I am confident we can continue to build upon the success in the factual space that Dash has enjoyed and develop premium features and series in both scripted and unscripted,” Oliver said. “The overt intention will be ambitious, entertaining projects that have impact, narrative propulsion and authentic authorship; stories which resonate with audiences.”

Speaking about Oliver joining Dash, Sharp added: “His many skills, vast experience and untold enthusiasm will help us navigate the many aspects of development and production that we need to continue to build our business across both scripted and unscripted, both domestically and internationally, whilst maintaining our high levels of quality.”
