Bloody Trailer Teases Season 2 Of RTÉ & Hulu Comedy Drama ‘Obituary’

EXCLUSIVE: It has been described as “Dexter meets Bad Sisters” and we can share the bloody trailer for Season 2 of Obituary, the dark comedy crime drama that is for Ireland’s RTÉ and Hulu in the U.S.

Siobhán Cullen reprises her role as Elvira Clancy, an obituary writer on a small-town Irish newspaper turned murderer. “Is he alive,” a blood-spattered Elvira asks as she has her mugshot taken inside a police station. “Not remotely,” deadpans the officer holding the camera. Her voiceover sets the scene further: “I’m about to become the chief suspect in a murder case, and I didn’t even do this one.”

Extraordinary star Máiréad Tyers has joined the cast for Season 2 of the show, which is filmed in Ireland.

The story picks up from Season 1 with Elvira struggling with the death of her beloved father. Again, she seeks relief in killing, but this time she is beaten to the act by a mysterious new murderer. A local cop, Detective Rose (Noni Stapleton), suspects Elvira of the crime. Elvira, meanwhile, becomes determined to solve the murder herself.

Tyers joins proceedings as eccentric newspaper editor Vivienne. She pits Elvira against her boyfriend Emerson (Ronan Raftery) in the newsroom. “My name’s Vivienne Birch and I believe in competition,” Birch tells journalists. “We should be all killer no filler.”

The series is produced by APC Studios and Irish indie Magamedia. Ray Lawlor is once again the writer. APC Studios’ Laurent Boissel and Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes exec produce.

APC’s sales arm handles distribution on Obituary. Season 1 sold well with buyers including Netflix in the UK, AMC Networks in Spain and Britbox in Australia. APC will be getting behind the new season at MIPCOM, the biggest TV market of the year, which takes place next month.
