‘Matlock’s Jason Ritter Pitches ‘Tracker’ Crossover: “Just Two Rugged Guys”

SPOILERS: This post contains details about the Season 1 finale of Matlock

As he returns for Season 2 of Matlock, Jason Ritter has ideas for a CBS crossover event.

The 2x Emmy nominee recently pitched an appearance for his recently-divorced attorney Julian Markston on sister series Tracker, alongside Justin Hartley‘s titular survivalist Colter Shaw.

“If Tracker ever wants a partner [for Justin’s character, Colter], maybe Julian leaves the firm and he starts a new life. Just two rugged guys,” Ritter jokingly told Us Weekly.

After Ritter’s law firm partner character was revealed as the man responsible for covering up the Wellbrexa documents that could have saved Madeline’s (Kathy Bates) daughter, it’s certainly a good time for Julian to be in the wind. And who better to find him than Colter? If they end up partnering on a case, so be it.

Following the Season 1 finale of CBS’s meta Matlock reboot in April, Ritter teased what’s in store for Julian in the sophomore season.

“Rome, in a Day” – As Matty settles into her new role at Jacobson Moore, Olympia and the aptly nicknamed “Team You Three” (Matty, Billy and Sarah) take on a lawsuit involving a developmentally delayed teenager whose family claims he’s been wrongly accused of murder. Also, Olympia and Julian disagree on a parenting matter, on MATLOCK, Thursday, Oct. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. “Julian was in the middle of a divorce, but he was going through his life with his skeletons safely in his closet,” he explained. “Now, with the affair coming out — and then with the other big reveal coming out — he’s in a new boat. There is no pretending with [his ex-wife] Olympia anymore. Or compartmentalizing and putting [things] away in a dark and shameful drawer.”

Ritter added, “Julian is going to have to grapple — one way or another — with this. It’s such a shameful thing that he has just put it away, tried to be a good dad and focused on his family. Now, he is grappling with the ramifications of what he did. Also he’s terrified.”
