Spartacus: House of Ashur took over San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, as Starz announced a winter premiere for the series and revealed a first look at the series in a teaser trailer below.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is a thrilling, erotic, history-bending, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. What if he lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled? Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him.
But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child’s play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics — a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn’t a sin, it’s currency. He flips tradition on its head by unleashing Achillia, a fierce and powerful gladiatrix eager to prove herself worthy in a man’s world. Together, they ignite a new kind of spectacle that shocks, disrupts, and offends the elite with every drop of blood.

Nick E. Tarabay returns to the character of Ashur, his original role from Steven S. DeKnight’s Spartacus, which aired for three seasons, as well as the prequel series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. In addition to DeKnight and Tarabay, the panelists included Tenika Davis, Graham McTavish, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber, and Jaime Slater. Liam McIntyre, who played Spartacus in the original series’ third season, served as the moderator of the panel.
McIntyre sweetly kicked off the celebration with a nod to the series’ original Spartacus, Andy Whitfield, who died in 2011 of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, at the age of 39. Before introducing the panelists, he asked the crowd of rowdy and devoted fans to clap and cheer for Whitfield, and in turn, the fans erupted in response, celebrating his memory.
Much like the series, the panel was raunchy and naughty, and many of the jokes are not made for print.
