Brian Altemus & John Clarence Stewart Cast In ‘Brilliant Minds’ As Series Regulars For Season 2

EXCLUSIVE: Brian Altemus (Shelter, The Time Traveler’s Wife) and John Clarence Stewart (P-Valley, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) have been cast as series regulars in the second season of the NBC drama series “Brilliant Minds,” which premieres this September.

Inspired by the extraordinary life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks, Brilliant Minds follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

Altemus will play Dr. Charlier Porter, the new neurology resident who is guarded, competitive and hiding something from his fellow doctors. Charlie believes in winning and sees medicine not as a calling, but a sport.

Stewart will play Dr. Anthony Thorne, a mid-career ER doctor who’s grown a little too comfortable with the maxim that emergency medicine is blue-collar work. Dr. Thorne is charmingly acerbic, allergic to anything or anyone too earnest, and believes helping a little for all is better than doing the most for a few, putting him in direct conflict with Dr. Wolf.

The cast also includes Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, and Donna Murphy.

Michael Grassi serves as writer and executive producer. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Henrik Bastin, Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish and Will Tennant also executive produce. Berlanti Productions, Fabel Entertainment, The Imaginarium, Grassi Productions and Tavala produce in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Altemus appeared in Harlan Coben’s Shelter for Amazon Prime and HBO’s The Time Traveler’s Wife. Additional television credits include a series regular role on Grand Army and a recurring role on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. On the feature film side, he can be seen in 2024’s Mean Girls and the 2020 Sundance film Never Rarely Sometimes Always. He is repped by Innovative Artists & Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Stewart recurred on the Starz series P-Valley and was a series regular on NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Previous TV credits include What/If, Luke Cage, Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, Hawaii Five-O, The Good Fight, and Blue Bloods for CBS, BC’s The Mysteries of Laura and Fox’s Gotham. Stewart co-starred in the Tubi feature film A Killer Romance and recently played the title character of Jelly’s Last Jam at the Pasadena Playhouse. He is repped by Innovative Artists Entertainment, Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
