The Last of Us is creeping up the Nielsen streaming charts thanks to the debut of Season 2, but You Season 5 was the big winner for April 21 to 27, soaring to No. 1 upon its return to Netflix with nearly 1.7B minutes viewed.
That’s with just a few days of viewing too, since the latest season premiered on April 24, so expect to see You around the Nielsen Top 10 for at least a few weeks. Nielsen says 67% of viewing went to the new season, indicating that around a third of the audience was playing catch up before diving into Season 5. In fact, the company reports that Season 1 has the second-largest viewing total out of the five.
However, as Deadline previously reported when Netflix’s own data for You Season 5 premiere week was released, the season appears to have underperformed compared to past seasons. It’s a bit more difficult to compare with previous Nielsen data, since Netflix released all episodes of Season 5 at once after opting to split up the releases of Seasons 3 and 4.

Since Nielsen reports in minutes viewed, it wouldn’t be equitable to compare its performance to either premiere week. However, Nielsen began reporting its streaming Top 10 the week after Season 2 debuted, and the series topped 3B viewing minutes that week. That was for a full week on the streamer, though, so next week’s Nielsen report will give a better picture of how Season 5 might compare.
Ransom Canyon held onto second place this week, increasing its tally to 1.29B minutes viewed.
The Last Of Us crept into third place, up from fifth the week prior, when Season 2 debuted. The HBO series put up 937M minutes viewed across 12 episodes, making it the top acquired title for the week, surprisingly beating out stalwarts Bluey and Grey’s Anatomy. This tracks, considering the April 20 episode was a heartbreaking and pivotal one for the story that generated a ton of conversation online.
Andor also launched into 10th place on the overall list after the first three episodes of its second and final season premiered on April 22. The series managed 721M minutes viewed, which is a new weekly high for the series. It was also No. 5 among streaming originals.
Per Nielsen, about 65% of its viewing total went to the newest episodes, indicating that, like You, audiences were looking for a refresher before diving into Season 2.
Interestingly, Conclave came in at No. 2 among streaming movies with 499M minutes viewed, despite landing on Peacock in December. That’s likely due to the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, which was swiftly followed by a real-life conclave to select Pope Leo XIV as his successor. Nielsen says it drew a bit of an older audience, with adults 50+ contributing 69% of watch time.
