SXSW Film & TV Festival 2025 Photos: ‘Another Simple Favor,’ Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Andrew Rannells & Paul Feig at Premiere

Filmmakers and festival attendees are in Austin for the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival to celebrate the convergence of the tech, film, and music industries across a variety of programming formats and special events. The fest runs March 7-14.

Celebrating its 31st year, SXSW promises a dynamic blend of tech, film, and music, featuring red-carpet premieres and diverse programming.

Kicking off the festivities, Amazon MGM Studios will premiere Another Simple Favor, the sequel starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively and directed by Paul Feig, on opening night. This time, Stephanie and Emily trade suburban secrets for Italian intrigue as Emily’s lavish Capri wedding descends into a whirlwind of murder, betrayal, and unexpected twists. The star-studded cast includes Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.

Premieres today include Kevin Bacon: A Career Retrospective From Footloose to The Bondsman and The Threesome, starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruby Cruz, and Jaboukie Young-White.

Apple TV+’s The Studio, starring Seth Rogen as a newly appointed studio head, will headline the TV premieres on opening night. The series also features Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O’Hara, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.

Sony Pictures Classics’ romance, On Swift Horses, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, Diego Calva, and Sasha Calle, will close the Film & TV Festival. The film follows Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Elordi) as they are about to begin a bright new life, which is upended by the arrival of Lee’s brother. Muriel embarks on a secret life, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible. 

The 20 additional projects bring the line up to 111 Features, including 90 World Premieres, 3 International Premieres, 3 North American Premieres, 4 U.S. Premieres, 11 Texas Premieres + 57 Short Films, and 19 Music Videos. The TV Program includes 17 TV projects, with 6 TV premieres, 4 TV Spotlight, and 7 Independent TV Pilots. There are 32 projects in the XR Experience Program, including 15 in XR Experience Competition and 17 in XR Experience Spotlight.

World Premieres in the narrative competition category will roll out throughout the fest and will include Magic Hour; The Rivals of Amziah King; Satisfaction; Summer of 69; Sweetness, and Trash Baby. Premieres in the Documentary Spotlight include American Sons and I’m Carl Lewis!.

In addition to film & TV festival screenings, there will be a wide full range of events during SXSW including Conference Keynotes, Featured Speakers, Mentor Sessions, Networking Meet Ups, Music Showcases, Comedy Festival Showcases, Exhibitions, and Professional Development. 

The Narrative Feature Competition, Documentary Feature Competition, Poster Design, and Special Awards will be announced on Wednesday, March 12, along with all the Short Film Program winners, which are eligible for Jury Awards within their respective screening categories.
