EXCLUSIVE: Spain’s Movistar Plus+ is the latest to buy Jack Thorne’s buzzy drama Lord of the Flies, as part of a six-title deal with Sony Pictures Television.

Also included in the agreement are psychological thriller American Hostage, dark comedy Up to No Good, British crime drama The Lady, period piece The Other Bennet Sister and relationship crisis series The Miniature Wife.

Lord of the Flies, the BBC and Stan has been selling internationally, with the likes of Netflix in the U.S., CBC in Canada and HBO Max in parts of Europe. American Hostage, set in the 1970s tells the true story of Fred Heckman (Jon Hamm), a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis (Giovanni Ribisi) demands to be interviewed on his radio news program; while Up to No Good, which stars Glenn Close as Maud Oldcastle, a brusque, cantankerous and ruthless older woman, who is also a killer. The Other Bennet Sister, from Bad Wolf, is adapted from the Janice Hadlow novel set in the world of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, and stars Ella Bruccoleri, Richard E. Grant, Ruth Jones and Richard Coyle, while The Miniature Wife, which is produced by Media Res, is based on the short story written by Manuel Gonzales. The dramedy examines the power (im)balances between spouses after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis. Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen star.

Mark Young, EVP, Distribution and Networks, Sony Pictures Television, EMEA, said the deal would “further extend” the U.S. studios long-standing business relationship with Movistar Plus+.

“This comprehensive collection really exemplifies the expansive storytelling power of Sony Pictures Television, and we have enjoyed a tremendous response to this premium slate since we premiered these titles at MIPCOM, Berlinale, and London Screenings,” he added.

Last year, the two companies struck a deal that saw Movistar Plus+ remain the exclusive pay 1 home in Spain for Sony’s feature films following their theatrical and home entertainment windows.
