As NBCUniversal readies virtual Andy Cohen to guide people through personalized versions of the Bravoverse, the longtime network stalwart and host/EP of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, appeared in person at SXSW to opine on the upcoming version of himself.
“It’s really cool. First of all, I love my AI guy, because you can tell he’s AI, which I think is actually really important. I think if it was a complete deep fake, it could be, you know, weird. So I think it’s clear you’re watching an AI version. But he actually has all the information and he will tell you whatever you want to know. So it’s like, just put a quarter in me and I’ll go,” he said at SXSW today in conversation with Matt Strauss, chairman, NBCUniversal Media Group.
The company recently unveiled the “Your Bravoverse” feature, which will debut this summer, to give fans new ways to engage with the Real Housewives and other properties directly on the Peacock app.

“I’ll tell you where you want to go, what you want to know. It tailors the experience for everyone. And everyone who loves Bravo has a different point of view and a different entry point. Where that stars is one place, but where the Bravoverse will take you is an entirely different place. And it also allows you the ability to say, wow. I like that clip, let me watch the whole episode. Or, what’s the story? Why are they fighting? And then click on that, and then I’ll tell you. It’s really infinite.”
“There’s probably no bigger fandom than Bravo’s,” Strauss said. “You’ve got decades of unbelievable programming, it’s almost impossible for anyone to watch all of it. So this is where technology meets fandom. I don’t think we could have created something like this a few years ago without AI, but we are literally using AI to scan every second of every show and episode within Bravo. The AI can tag exactly what’s happening, who’s in the scene, what’s the storyline, and it creates a searchable database.
“I think what we’re all learning right now is TV viewing is no longer passive. [Fans] want to participate. We want to engage and interact, and we don’t want it to be over when the episode’s over.”
Also upcoming, The Real Housewives Of Rhode Island. The latest addition to the Housewives franchise, now 20, is set to premiere in April.
Rhode Island “is giving me everything that I love in Housewives,” Cohen said. “The women are all stars. They’re so funny. They are the drama. You know, we were talking about Rhode Island backstage. It’s our smallest state and they all seem to know each other, or be related, or went to high school together, or all of the above. They’re all in each other’s lives and it’s super dramatic. It’s also serving as a destination, in the way that Housewives should in that I really want to go to Rhode Island in the summer. It’s the Ocean State. It’s beautiful. We shot it in the summer. It’s all water, and it’s just great.”
“There is not a dud episode in the bunch. You’re going to love it. And I’m not over hyping.”
“We were worried about saturation, like eight Housewives ago,” he joked. “It appears there is a market for new places.”
