Fox‘s medical drama Doc is getting another high-profile cast addition. Blair Underwood has been tapped as a new series regular for Season 3, which was officially picked up yesterday. He will be introduced as a guest star in the two-hour Season 2 finale on April 14.
Underwood is succeeding another big name, Felicity Huffman, who joined Doc for a year-long arc in Season 2. His deal also is believed to be for one season. Underwood will play Dr. Ben Grant, a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn’t just save lives — he owns the OR. Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he’s never not been the smartest person in the room… until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker). Almost instantly, their approaches clash, egos collide, and sparks fly like Westside has never seen. Together, their brilliance is unmatched —as long as they can survive each other.
Inspired by a true story and based on the Italian format, Doc follows the hard-charging, brilliant physician Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker) as she rebuilds her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory.

Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim also star, joined in Season 2 by Huffman. Scott Wolf has been recurring.
Season 2, whose next episode airs tonight, is executive produced by co-showrunners Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg as well as Erwin Stoff, Russell Fine, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Carol Barbee and David Foster.
Underwood currently stars in Youngblood, a reimagining of the 1980s hockey film starring Rob Lowe. He co-starred in RZA’s upcoming indie One Spoon of Chocolate, which premiered last year at Tribeca and recently completed production on the upcoming Netflix romance Don’t Ever Wonder opposite Larenz Tate and Nia Long. Underwood, who also directed, produced and stars in the upcoming independent psychological thriller Viral, is repped CAA, Thruline, Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
