Hugh Laurie is mourning the death of Tehran producer Dana Eden.
The Night Manager star made a rare appearance on social media today to call Eden’s apparent suicide a “terrible thing.” Having been introduced in Tehran’s Season 3 as South African nuclear inspector Eric Peterson, Laurie is set to be in the Niv Sultan-led series’ Season 4 in the pivotal and timely role.
“Dana Eden, who co-created and produced Tehran’, died on Sunday, seemingly by her own hand,” Laurie, who is in the third season of the geopolitical drama, wrote online. “It’s a terrible thing. She was brilliant, and funny, and an exceptional leader. Love and condolences to all who knew her.”
Eden was discovered in her Athens hotel room on February 15, as Tehran was in the process of shooting its recently announced fourth season. An investigation by Greek police is ongoing, but foul play has been seemingly dismissed. At the same time, as news of medication the Tehran co-creator and producer was taking was revealed, an autopsy order was issued this weekend in Athens to determine the cause of death.

Tehran, which follows an Israeli Mossad agent of Iranian-Jewish descent working undercover in the capital of the Islamic Republic, saw its long delayed third season launch on the tech company’s streaming service on January 26, 2026. Tehran’s latest season had debuted in Israeli TV on December 8, 2024.
AppleTV and Israeli broadcaster Kan both expressed shock at Eden’s death, with the latter adding “her professional and personal legacy will continue to shape Israeli television for many years to come.”
As theories were thrown around online Eden’s death may have been at the hands of Iranian agents, Tehran producers Donna and Shula Productions moved quickly to shut down the rumor. The company said it “wants to make it clear that the rumors of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless.”
Mirroring the narrative of Tehran in many ways, the US and Iran today concluded their latest talks over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program amidst protests and a murderous crackdown in the country. On the sidelines, the United States is solidifying a growing military presence in the Persian Gulf and Donald Trump has been talking about regime change.
