Savannah Guthrie Shares New Video As FBI Recovers DNA Sample From Potential Suspect: “It Is Never Too Late To Do The Right Thing”

It has been two weeks since the disappearance of broadcast journalist Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her home in Tucson, Ariz. In a new video posted today on Instagram, the Today co-anchor reaffirmed her hope in recovering her mom and pleaded for anyone connected to the abduction to come forward.

“We still have hope, and we still believe,” she said. “And I wanted to say: To whoever has her, or knows where she is, that it’s never too late, and you’re not lost or alone. And it is never too late to do the right thing, and we are here. We believe, and we believe in the essential goodness of every human being.”

The NBC News morning show host added in the caption: “bring her home.”

Meanwhile, federal investigators told the public they have collected DNA from someone other than Nancy Guthrie on her property. The FBI said it obtained a sample from a glove that was found near her abode that appears to match a pair worn by the masked and armed individual spotted on doorbell camera footage released by the government agency last week. The analysis is currently awaiting “quality control and official confirmation” before results are compared against known DNA profiles in a national database.

The glove is one of over a dozen collected by investigators in a roadside field about two miles from the residence of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. Most of the gloves were ones that had been discarded on the ground by searchers in the area.

As of yesterday, no arrest has been made in connection with the case, though the FBI has released additional details of the suspect — described as a male, approximately 5’9” or 5’10” tall, with an average build, who was seen wearing a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack — and doubled the reward amount to $100,000.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at night Jan. 31, when she was dropped off at her home by a relative. She was reported missing around noon the next day. Three days later, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters that authorities believe she was “taken from her house against her will,” as blood had been found on her porch matching her DNA and her security camera had been unplugged. Officials have been examining suspected ransom notes sent to TMZ and local outlets, and Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released a number of statements asking for their mother’s return.
