Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Elon Musk Following Criticism Of Lupita Nyong’o’s Rumored Character In Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’: “Go Sit Down”

Whoopi Goldberg took shots at Elon Musk after the Tesla owner criticized Lupita Nyong’o’s possible character in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The EGOT actor defended Nyong’o after Musk said Nolan had “lost his integrity” over unconfirmed rumors the Oscar winner would play Helen of Troy in the new epic.

“Ooh, you know, because Homer described this fictional character as fair-skinned, blonde, who was so beautiful that men started a war over her,” Goldberg said. “I don’t know if you realize this, Lupita is also considered one of the world’s most beautiful women. So, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.”

She continued, “You don’t actually have to go to the movie. See, I don’t know why you feel the need to speak on this. I would suggest looking in a mirror if you have any concerns about people’s looks, if this is where we’re going.”

Goldberg added a disclaimer in case Musk responded to her criticism and had his supporters come after her.

“Don’t bother to clown me, baby. I know what I look like,” she added. “There’s so many things I want to say to you that are rude and awful, but I won’t do it. But know that I’m thinking it.”

After the other View panelists took turns to weigh in on the topic, Goldberg ended by saying, “Elon, just sit down. For this, when it comes to artistic stuff, go sit down, please.”

Nyong’o joined the cast of The Odyssey in November 2024, but her character has not yet been revealed.

The Odyssey is slated to premiere on July 17, 2026, and is an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem about Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The film’s cast includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Elliot Page, among others.
