ABC’s ‘General Hospital’ Remembers Anthony Geary With Touching Tribute: “Some People Were So Alive That They’ll Never Be Gone”

General Hospital paid tribute to Anthony Geary at the end of the episode that aired on Friday, January 3.

The touching memorial is the first of many that the ABC soap plans to remember the late actor.

“Tony was a master craftsman,” Nancy Lee Grahn says in the tribute video. “He was a deep thinker, curious, generous, and delightfully naughty — that was my favorite part about him.”

Laura Wright adds, “Tony Geary was an incredible man and an amazing actor. And I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to share the stage with him.”

Genie Francis then appears and says, “Some people were so alive that they will never be gone.”

Geary was soon paired with Genie Francis’s Laura Webber, becoming a long-running staple of the show. In 1981, the wedding of Luke & Laura set daytime ratings records and made national headlines.

Geary won Daytime Awards for his General Hospital performance in 1982, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, and 2015.

Despite the immense popularity of Luke and Laura, Francis left the role in 1982 and briefly returned in 1983. The couple officially left the show together in 1985 and returned to their roles in 1993. Francis left in 2002, but has since returned to the role. After retiring in 2015, Geary and husband Claudio Gama moved to Geary’s home in Amsterdam.
