Top BBC Anchor Amol Rajan Leaving ‘Today’ Programme To “Unleash My Inner Entrepreneur”

Top BBC anchor Amol Rajan is leaving the Today programme after four years and setting up a company.

Rajan will remain with the BBC presenting University Challenge and the Radical with Amol Rajan podcast but he said he will also set up shop.

“Twenty years after I first flirted with the idea, I’m extremely excited to jump into the Great Digital Narnia of the Creator Economy, and build my own company,” said Rajan. “I’ll still do Britain’s oldest TV quiz and most exciting podcast.”

Rajan added that “[Only Fools and Horses character] Del Boy was my hero growing up and it’s time to unleash my inner entrepreneur.”

Rajan has been one of the presenters of the popular morning show on Radio 4 for four years and his replacement will be unveiled in due course.

He has long been with the BBC, having joined as its first media editor a decade back. He started presenting University Challenge in 2023 and also has an interviews show with the BBC plus the podcast.

Owenna Griffiths, editor of Today, said: “Amol is an exceptional talent with a rare combination of intellectual dexterity, impressive breadth of interest and a brilliant sense of humour. Moreover – and perhaps, most importantly – he is a great team player who always champions the hard work of producers. It has been enormous fun working with him on Today and setting up Radical. He will be sorely missed.”
