After 25 years, Rose McGowan recently opened up about Hollywood’s unnecessary body standards at the time of her Charmed tenure.
The actress recently revealed that her bosses on the WB show would “check my weight” when she returned for each season to play witchy sister Paige Matthews during her 2001-2006 run.
“They would circle around me to check my weight when I came back from season to season,” she recalled on We Need to Talk. “I think it was just really inspecting their product.”

McGowan added, “There was no chill with it. It was completely fine to be that way. Now they have to kind of pay lip service to being different.”
Having stepped back from her onscreen career nearly a decade ago, McGowan isn’t sure how much things have changed for actresses in the industry.
“People are like, ‘Do you think Hollywood’s changed?’” said McGowan. “I’m like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know. But, I mean, definitely in a lot of ways, in the sense that it’s not really a major player on the world stage anymore.’”
Running for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006 on The WB, Charmed followed the witchy Halliwell sisters (Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs) as they mastered their powers after the death of their mother. Following the departure of Doherty’s Prue after Season 3, McGowan joined the show as long-lost sister Paige.
