EXCLUSIVE: The Costume Designers Guild has fashioned career honors for One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor and multiple-Emmy-nominated costume designer Michelle Cole to be presented at its awards gala next month.
Actor, director, producer, choreographer and musician Taylor will receive the guild’s Vanguard Spotlight Award, and Cole is set for the Career Achievement Award. Both will be feted during the 28th CDGA on Thursday, February 12 at The Ebell of Los Angeles.
The Vanguard Spotlight Award honors a trailblazer who ignites the imaginations of cognoscenti and audiences alike, per the CDG. Its Career Achievement Award award recognizes an individual whose career in costume design has left an indelible mark on film and television.

Taylor is on the awards circuit this year for her role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean
Penn and others in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. She has won Best Supporting Actress accolades from numerous critics groups around the country and is nominated for the Actor Award and Sunday’s Golden Globes. Along with her music career, Taylor’s many screen credits include features The Book of Clarence, Coming 2 America, The Trap and 2023’s White Men Can’t Jump and co-stars with Kim Kardashian in Ryan Murphy’s Hulu series All’s Fair.
More than four decades into her career, Cole is recognized as one of Hollywood’s leading creatives and a dedicated mentor. She has nine career Emmy nominations spanning Black-ish and In Living Color — for which she dressed the iconic Fly Girls — and her dozens of credits also include Black-ish spinoff Grown-ish, The Soul Man, Kickin’ It, The Bernie Mac Show, Three Sisters and Martin. She’s alsoa board member of the Costume Designers Guild.
“I am so honored to be the recipient of the Career Achievement Award because I love my work and treasure my wonderful community of costume designers, directors, producers, actors and of course my team,” Cole said. “These are the lasting relationships which have defined my career, and I celebrate them.”
