The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast is coming back with a second season on January 16, Starz said Monday, with new episodes to stream weekly on Fridays via the Starz app, and the network’s streaming and on-demand platforms. The Season 2 trailer can be found below.
Across six episodes, the second season will focus on an exclusive interview with Black Mafia Family co-founder Terry Lee “Southwest Tee” Flenory, highlighting his role as the mastermind, his deep bond with his brother Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, and the ultimate breakdown of their relationship as power, paranoia and law enforcement pressure drove them apart.
The docuseries overall explores the rise and fall of the Black Mafia Family, the notorious drug empire built by the brothers. Fueled by ambition, loyalty, and a shared vision, they created a sprawling criminal enterprise, only to be undone by rivalries, betrayal and the weight of their choices. From the streets of Detroit to the heights of infamy, this is their untold story and the lasting legacy they left behind.

The documentary was ordered in 2021 as a companion project to complement the Starz scripted crime drama BMF, which recently concluded its four-season run on Starz. The show was canceled in October, leaving fans with a cliffhanger when Big Meech (Demetrius Flenory Jr.) was arrested by Detective Von Bryant (Steve Harris).
However, considering the series followed the adventures of the Flenory brothers, with Da’Vinchi starring as Terry Flenory, viewers can read up on the events that followed. They can also now catch the docuseries’ second season, where they can hear details straight from the real-life Southwest Tee.
There has been plenty of speculation regarding why BMF was canceled, with a spotlight on franchise executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s beef with Big Meech. Sources at the time of the cancellation told Deadline that Jackson and Big Meech’s frayed relationship was not the reason BMF ended. Jackson addressed the rumors during a recent chat with Deadline while promoting his ratings juggernaut Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
“BMF was already slightly declining [in ratings] before the last season started, and they made some creative choices that were, from my perspective, not good choices,” Jackson told me in late November. “I know people feel like I turned it off, but the networks would have continued to move forward with the show if it was doing the numbers it had been doing. So it’s [one thing] me saying that the show’s over, and then [another] that it’s actually over. Those were the circumstances; it wasn’t me.”
With that clarification, whether The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast will continue beyond Season 2 is unknown. Regarding the future of the franchise, Jackson has reiterated his intention to continue via spinoffs, both before and after BMF was canceled. He did not elaborate on what storylines or timelines he’s interested in expanding.
Jackson is also executive producer of the Power franchise on Starz, which has successfully found new life beyond the mothership series with spinoffs Ghost, Raising Kanan, Force, and the new prequel project Origins. Ghost concluded its run after four seasons in 2024, prequel Raising Kanan will end following its upcoming fifth season, and Force will wrap up Tommy’s (Joseph Sikora) Chicago adventures after three seasons January 16. Origins is currently in production on its freshman season in New York and New Jersey.
All that to say that BMF‘s ending after four seasons doesn’t signify that the Black Family Mafia’s stories can’t continue.
