Netflix Reveals First-Look At ‘Extraction’ Series As Omar Sy Starrer Wraps Production In Ireland

Mercenary: An Extraction Series, the television spinoff of Netflix’s Chris Hemsworth-led action thriller movie franchise has wrapped production in Ireland and is now heading to Morocco.

But the streamer is building up some interest in the Omar Sy-fronted series with its first-look (below).

The image shows the Lupin star in full military garb.

In the series, Sy’s mercenary embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, he must navigate life-or-death choices while confronting deep emotional wounds.

It comes from Glen Mazzara, who serves as showrunner, and exec produces alongside Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Chris Castaldi for AGBO, Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.

Louise Hooper (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) and Tim Southam (Foundation) will each direct four episodes and will exec produce their episodes.

Boyd Holbrook, Natalie Dormer, Waleed Zuaiter, Ed Speleers, Sacha Dhawan, Ross McCall, Pip Torrens, Sam Woolf, Michael Zananiri, Riyad Sliman, Muhannad Ben Amor, Aaron Heffernan, Jojo Macari, Theo Ogundipe and Emma Appleton also star.

The series is an extension of Extraction; the first film, which was written by Joe Russo and directed by Sam Hargrave, came out in 2020 with the sequel coming out in 2023.

There is also going to be a new film, titled Tygo, from South Korea with Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal starring alongside Don Lee and Lee Jin-uk.

AGBO’s Chief Creative Officer Angela Russo-Otstot said the company was “inspired to tell more stories in this global franchise, further exploring heroic yet flawed mercenaries who illuminate universal themes”.
