In an emergency press conference called Sunday night by the Los Angeles Police Department, Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton said there is ongoing investigation into two deaths at Rob Reiner‘s Brentwood home.
The family has confirmed that the Oscar-nominated Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner died earlier in the day at their Brentwood home. Source said the cause was stabbing, though Hamilton during the presser would not confirm any details in the ongoing “death investigation.” He said the L.A. coroner would confirm the identities of the bodies.
Hamilton tonight fielded questions from journalists but refrained from giving additional details, including information about who called authorities and whether family members are being interviewed. Hamilton also avoided classifying the investigation as homicide, though the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division is on the scene.

The Los Angeles Fire Department LAFD received the call of an “incident” at the Reiner home, located on the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue, at around 3:40 p.m. PT. They arrived at the Brentwood mansion soon afterward, with the LAPD on the scene within the hour. Authorities had previously described the situation as a “family incident.”
During the press conference, Hamilton declined comment on reporting that the Reiners’ daughter Romy Reiner placed the 911 call, and sidestepped a question concerning People’s report that the couple was slain via knife by their son Nick Reiner.
Said L.A., Mayor Karen Bass in a statement: “This is a devastating loss for our city and our country. Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice. An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others. Personally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him. Among his numerous contributions, Rob helped create First 5 California, a landmark initiative funded by a tobacco tax to support early childhood development programs. He and Michele fought for early childhood development and marriage equality, working to overturn Proposition 8. They were true champions for LGBTQ+ rights. I want to thank all of the first responders who were called to this tragic event. The investigation is ongoing. I’m holding all who loved Rob and Michele in my heart.”
