X Mayo Co-Creating With Mike Sikowitz & Poised To Star In TSA Comedy ‘Checkpoint’ In Works At CBS

EXCLUSIVE: After partnering on a workplace comedy set at a (state) government agency with DMV, Kapital Entertainment and CBS are teaming up on another workplace comedy set at a government agency, this time a federal one.

CBS is developing Checkpoint, co-written and executive produced by actor-writer-comedian X Mayo and veteran comedy showrunner Mike Sikowitz. The single-camera project, based on X Mayo’s personal experience, is intended as a starring vehicle for her. It is about TSA officers navigating their careers, love, and friendship, all while trying to keep sane, and keep America safe.

X Mayo and Sikowitz executive produce alongside Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan. Kapital’s Dylan Hammalian co-executive produces.

Kaplan and X Mayo first worked together on another single-camera workplace comedy, NBC’s American Auto, on which X Mayo was a series regular. A followup meeting, in which Los Angeles native X Mayo shared stories from her time working as a TSA agent at LAX, led to Checkpoint.

Friends alum Sikowitz worked as an executive producer on The Goldbergs, The McCarthys and Rules of Engagement and was showrunner on Dr. Ken and Welcome To the Family. He is repped by CAA and Gender Kelly & Cunningham.

X Mayo plays one of the leads opposite Yahya Abdul-Mateen in Disney+’s upcoming Wonder Man Marvel limited series and is recurring on Maya Rudolph’s Apple TV series Loot. She also recently guest starred on ABC’s Abbott Elementary and is set to appear in the network’s Scrubs reboot. In features, X Mayo was most recently seen in Freakier Friday. The Upright Citizens Brigade alumna and former The Daily Show with Trevor Noah writer is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.

In addition to the single-camera DMV, CBS Kapital Entertainment also has sophomore drama series Watson and veteran multi-camera sitcom The Neighborhood, now in its eighth and final season, with single-camera offshoot Crutch recently launching on Paramount+.
