Will there be new characters in Season 2 of Ransom Canyon?

Yes, some new characters have already been announced for the second season. Most notably, Patricia Clarkson has boarded as a guest star in the role of Quinn’s (Minka Kelly) mother Claire O’Grady, and Steve Howey (High Potential) will appear as a recurring guest star in the role of Staten’s half-brother Levi.

Two more newcomers include Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom) and Heidi Engerman (Candyman). They will play recurring guest roles. Deadline broke the news that Engerman will portray Yancy Grey’s wife.

The mysterious figure, whom Yancy had not mentioned at all to Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada) was introduced at the end of Season 1 with Erica Dasher standing in as the back of her head for showrunner April Blair, who worked with the actress on the show Jane by Design. The deal was that Dasher would get to audition for the role if she stood in there during a visit to set.

Who is returning for Season 2 of Ransom Canyon? Will any characters from Season 1 not be back?

Deadline broke the news that Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner will not return as series regulars in Season 2 of Ransom Canyon.

We also exclusively reported that Casey W. Johnson, who plays Kit Russell, was promoted to a series regular role for Season 2. Kit is Lucas Russell’s (Garrett Wareing) older brother who turned out to be at the center of the mystery spine of Season 1.

Josh Duhamel will return as Staten Kirkland, and Minka Kelly will return as Quinn O’Grady, though Quinn made the decision to go play piano in New York in the Season 1 finale, leaving her romance with Staten behind. Wareing will return as Lucas Russell, and in an interview with Deadline for the movie The Long Walk, he teased a “nice contrast” to the “golden retriever energy” that viewers saw from Lucas in Season 1 while he pursued Lizzy Greene’s Lauren Brigman. Marianly Tejada will also return as Ellie.

Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Kenny Miller, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, Brett Cullen, and Niko Guardado will return in season 2 as guest cast.

What happened in Season 1 of Ransom Canyon?

Centering on love, land and legacy, Season 1 of Ransom Canyon chronicled three ranches in the titular Texas Hill Country town — the Double K Ranch owned by Staten Kirkland, Collins Ranch and Cap Fuller’s (James Brolin) ranch. It also centered three love triangles — Staten and Quinn with Eoin Macken’s Davis Collins, Lucas and Lauren with Andrew Liner’s Reid Collins and Yancy Grey with Ellie — which was challenged by the surprise arrival of his wife.

Davis Collins worked hard to secure a deal with Austin Water & Power, the agreement hinging on the company’s desire to develop the ranch land. Fuller and Kirkland united against this idea. Quinn, who manages Gracie’s Dance Hall, struck her own deal with the developers at the encouragement of Staten’s father (Cullen), a senator whose political motivations add to the shadiness of AWP, but they wanted the money back, which brought her to take a prestigious piano gig in New York.

Yancy made a name for himself riding at the rodeo, but shortly after he proposed to Ellie, his mysterious wife tracked him down and introduced herself as such to Ellie. Brolin’s Cap Fuller also died, leaving his ranch land behind as well as his connection to Yancy, which became clear as the season unfolded.

Lauren, who injured herself trying out for the University of Texas’ cheer squad, figured out that her mother was behind the wheel the night of Staten’s son Randall’s car accident. She persuaded her father Sheriff Brigman (Winchester) to arrest her mother because the blame was falling on Kit Russell, who was with her in the car. Lauren’s relationship with Lucas helped her connect the dots, and Lucas and his brother live alone in a trailer park without their parents, so she knew her boyfriend would need his big brother back.

Who else is behind Ransom Canyon Season 2?

Showrunner April Blair will continue to hold the reins as creator and executive producer. Duhamel and Kelly also serve as executive producers alongside Dan Angel and Bradley Gardner.
