Known for its ‘80s nostalgia and supernatural goings-on thanks to one warped villain, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), Netflix’s Stranger Things established very strong connections to music from its very first season. Brothers Will (Noah Schnapp) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) bonded over The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go,” which may have even helped Will survive in The Upside Down, as seen in the first five minutes of Stranger Things Season 5, which were released earlier this month.
As the seasons went on, more songs soundtracked big moments like the quadruple threat of Pat Benatar’s “Love Is A Battlefield” followed by Olivia Newton John’s “Twist of Fate,” Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and the Police’s “Every Breath You Take” teaming up for the Snow Ball at the end of Season 2. Season 3’s trailer combined Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home” with The Who’s “Baba O’Reilly” to tease the summer launch of the third installment, and Season 4 saw anthems like Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (Deal With God)” and Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” surge across streaming charts.
To revisit all the musical moments throughout what will soon be five seasons of Stranger Things — and for a refresher on what tunes have thwarted Vecna — read on:
