Comedian Robby Hoffman has locked in a premiere date for her debut Netflix special, Wake Up. Her new hour, directed by John Mulaney, premieres globally on December 14.
No word yet on topics discussed in the special. But Hoffman taped it at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever on Tuesday, October 21st. She exec produced alongside Mulaney, as well as John Foy and Shoo Fly Productions, Inc.
In a statement exclusive to Deadline, Mulaney said, “Robby Hoffman makes me laugh until I’m delirious. No one has owned a stage like her since James Brown. I’m extremely proud to be part of her Netflix debut, but moreover extremely lucky that I got to spend so much time with this brilliant lunatic.”
At the tail end of a big year, Hoffman is among the comedic talents the town is watching the most closely at the moment, as a breakout star in stand-up with much more to explore as a creator and actor, as well. She earned her first Emmy nomination this fall for a standout guest part in the fourth season of HBO Max’s Hacks, is currently in production on Season 5, and was also seen starring this year alongside Michelle Williams in FX’s limited series Dying for Sex.

A queer ex-Hasidic comic from Brooklyn, beloved for her intense, direct style as a comic, Hoffman began her career as a writer, earning a 2019 Daytime Emmy for her work on the PBS series Odd Squad before going on to work on series like Workin’ Moms, Baroness Von Sketch Show, and The Chris Gethard Show. She debuted her first critically acclaimed special, I’m Nervous, on CraveTV and also previously did a set for Netflix’s Verified Stand-Up.
Hoffman hosts the podcast Too Far with Rachel Kaly and is currently developing an HBO series called Unentitled, where she’ll serve as writer, exec producer and star. Also set to appear in a major role in Steve Carell’s still-untitled forthcoming HBO series, Hoffman is repped by UTA, El Centro Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
