EXCLUSIVE: Teddy Biaselli, an 11-year Netflix veteran, has been promoted to VP, Scripted Series as part of the streamer’s push for more IP/franchise-driven fare. Reporting to Michael Azzolino, VP of Drama Series Development, Biaselli will shepherd the slate of current series and develop new shows based on pre-existing IP, such as Wednesday and Scooby Doo, as well as projects based on an original premise that have the potential to create new global IP, such as Stranger Things. His goal is to build tentpole franchises.
The newly created role expands on Biaselli’s previous work assembling a Four Quadrant/IP Franchise series slate as Director, Original Series at Netflix. He oversaw development and production on such global hits as Wednesday, One Piece, Avatar The Last Airbender, The Umbrella Academy, Sweet Tooth, and the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series.
Biaselli joined Netflix in 2014 as part of the family programming team and oversaw development of Fuller House, Lost in Space, A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Emmy-winning Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. He also was responsible for bringing Cobra Kai, originally set up at YouTube, to Netflix.
Prior to joining Netflix, Biaselli was a development executive at the Hasbro/Discovery cable network The Hub and at Disney Channel.
