EXCLUSIVE: Last Night Was a Movie, the comedy series being shopped by buzzy sketch group Almost Friday, on which we first reported in August, is heading to FX for development, sources tell Deadline.
Reps for FX declined to comment. We understand that deals are still being sorted. As we previously reported, the project teams the creatives from Almost Friday — including Billy Langdon, Liam Cullagh, Chet Collins, Eilise Patton, and Will Angus — with BoulderLight Pictures, whose J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules have been tapped to head up a new genre label for Paramount starting next year.
Plot details are under wraps but the show is described as a high-concept comedy. The project originated as an idea from the Weapons duo of Lifshitz and Margules, which they brought to Almost Friday. It’s expected that all members of the Almost Friday troupe will participate in the show as writers and producers, in addition to on-screen work, with creator credit going to the group’s Tyler Falbo, should the project be greenlighted.

Ben Purdy, President of BoulderLight Television, developed the show with Falbo, as well as Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creators of Netflix’s Peabody Award-winning mockumentary American Vandal, who are expected to serve as showrunners and executive producers. A+E Studios and Range Studios, in which A+E has a minority stake, will serve as the studio.
BoulderLight and Almost Friday are repped by Range. BoulderLight is also with Ziffren Brittenham. UTA reps Falbo, as well as Cullagh, Collins, Patton and Angus. Cullagh is also with Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Collins with Range; Patton with Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman; and Angus with Mosaic and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
