Stephen Colbert Reveals ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Role As Paramount+ Sets Premiere Date — NYCC

Although Stephen Colbert‘s late-night post will come to an end in May, he revealed at New York Comic Con that he’s gotten a jump on his next gig.

During Saturday’s Star Trek universe panel, the Late Show host made a virtual appearance to announce that he’s voicing a role in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which also revealed its new trailer and Paramount+ premiere date.

“Folks, I’m sorry I couldn’t be with you in person today, but I’m a perfectionist, and I just didn’t have enough bunting for my Mugato cosplay,” he joked in the video played for fans. “However, nothing could stop me from sharing this exciting news; I’m honored to announce that my beautiful voice will be joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the Digital Dean of Students.

After giving a teaser of one of his lines, Colbert added, “I’m thrilled to join this universe that I’ve loved for so long, and unlike my on-camera castmates, I’m thrilled to join it without having to spend four hours in hair and makeup everyday. I’ll see you when Starfleet Academy premieres. Until then, enjoy the Con. Live long… and do your thing.”

Despite the controversial cancellation of his CBS talk show, Colbert isn’t going too far for his next gig on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy when the first two episodes premiere Jan. 15 on the company’s streamer Paramount+. (He also booked a meta role coming up on Season 3 of CBS‘s Elsbeth.)

New episodes of Starfleet Academy are available to stream Thursdays on Paramount+, with the season finale set for March 12.

Saturday’s panel featured cast members Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner and Paul Giamatti, plus co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau.

The upcoming spin-off introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
