‘Access Hollywood’ Hit By Layoffs Following ‘E! News’ Linear Show Cancellation

EXCLUSIVE: There are layoffs today at NBCUniversal‘s syndicated entertainment newsmagazine Access Hollywood, Deadline has learned. The exact number of impacted employees is unclear, but it is believed to include 20+-year veterans who were told today is their last day, we hear.

The cuts are said to be related to E! News, the long-running celebrity news show on the Versant-bound NBCU cable network E!, coming to an end Thursday, September 25.

E! News, Access Hollywood and offshoot Access Daily all have operated out of the Terrace Studios, adjacent to the Universal Studios lot, in Universal City, CA. According to sources close to production, they had shared resources and, with the number of shows going from three to two, some roles among the stage and technical crew were eliminated in search of the proverbial efficiencies, resulting in the layoffs.

Most of the affected staffers are believed to have worked across all shows, with some focused primarily on Access.

Access Hollywood and Access Daily will continue filming at Terrace Studios going forward.

As Deadline reported exclusively in July, the half-hour E! News program ended after 34 years, putting its staff of around 20 people in limbo. There was a chance for some of them to be offered other roles with others expected to leave.
