EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-nominated Jimmi Simpson (Dark Matter) has been cast as a new series regular opposite Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the upcoming third season of AMC‘s The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Simpson will play Dillard. Additional character details are being kept under wraps. Production on Season 3 is underway in Boston, MA.
The Walking Dead: Dead City follows the characters of Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which has been cut off from the mainland for a long time.
In Season 2, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.

When the show was renewed for a third season, it was announced that franchise vet Seth Hoffman was taking over as showrunner.

Simpson currently stars in Apple’s Dark Matter, which is heading into its second season. He portrays multiple versions of Ryan Holder, a brilliant neuroscientist, across different realities. He also voices the character of Abaddon, a demon trapped in a young boy’s body, on Netflix’s Haunted Hotel. Simpson was nominated for an Emmy for his role as William on Westworld and he received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for his role as William in Black Mirror, which he reprised in its sequel episode this year. He also shared in an Independent Spirit Award for Best Ensemble Cast for Pachinko in 2023. Simpson is repped by Cognition Management and CAA.
